‘The Cursed Sect’: Quakers in Portsmouth During the Colonial Period

Date: November 16th 2024

Time: 1:00 pm

November 16 @ 1:00 pm 2:00 pm

Join Stephen Luce on Saturday, November 16th at 1 PM to learn more about the history of the Portsmouth Friends.  The Society of Friends, or Quakers as they are more commonly known, were a persecuted religious group when they first arrived in New England in 1656. Rhode Island, especially Portsmouth, allowed them the freedom to worship as they wished, and within a century they became the dominant religious group in the colony.

Lecture is being held at the Portsmouth Friends Church, 11 Middle Road.  Donations for the upkeep of the Portsmouth Friends Church will be gratefully accepted.   No pre-registration is required and all are welcome.
