Aquidneck Island Trolleys

Date: October 24th 2024

Time: 6:30 pm

October 24 @ 6:30 pm 7:30 pm

Fresh off our own historic trolley tour, Portsmouth Town Historian Jim Garman will present a lecture on the history of Aquidneck Island trolleys. The first electric trolley line was constructed in Richmond, Virginia in 1888. Newport received its first line in 1889 following the organization of the Newport Street Railway earlier that same year.

Come learn about the Island Line that traversed the east side of Aquidneck Island, the power station in the Newtown section of Portsmouth and the car barn that was located near Child Street.
