Sarah J. Eddy was inducted into the RI Heritage Hall of Fame Sunday December 3, 2017. Jim Garman accepted the award in the name of the PHS.
For those not familiar, she was a humanitarian, artist, sculptor, author and a master photographer, whose work was shown in Paris and London among other places. Born in Providence in 1851 she moved to Bristol Ferry in the 1890s and she died there in 1945. She ran a Social Studio from her home in the Bristol Ferry area where she allowed opportunities for children to hear lectures, learn to paint and develop social graces. There is much more to her career. She painted famous portraits of Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony.
