Nov 10, 2025 – Lift Officially Open!

The Portsmouth Historical Society Museum is now accessible to all!

The new Lifeway Mobility Lift to the second floor of the society’s museum is officially open!

Town Historian Jim Garman and Missy Taylor did the honors at our ribbon cutting, celebrating a major step toward accessibility for everyone. The new lift is fully enclosed and ready to welcome all visitors to our upstairs events! In addition, the first floor is accessible via a ramp leading from two paved parking spaces to the entrance at the rear of the building.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to our generous supporters — the Alletta Morris McBean Trust, Bank Newport, The Felice Fund, The Champlin Foundation, and The van Beuren Charitable Foundation — and to our amazing members, especially Rich Talipsky and Missy Taylor, for helping make this dream a reality. After more than fifteen years of planning, the Portsmouth Historical Society is now accessible to all.

All are invited to see the new lift in action at our Annual Meeting and Holiday Gathering on Thursday, December 11 at 6:00 PM at the museum. We’ll share highlights of our accomplishments from the past year and officially launch our 2026 Membership Drive.

The coming year promises to be especially exciting as we kick off a full year of celebrations marking the 250th Anniversary of the birth of our nation. After the meeting, we’ll gather downstairs to enjoy hors d’oeuvres, Portsmouth Punch, and good conversation with friends and neighbors.

PHS President, Craig Clark, Missy Taylor, Jim Garman, Dave Gleason, Anne Northup Burns, and Becky Sattel attend the ribbon cutting ceremony, Thursday, November 6, 2025.
