Christmas and Holiday message from Jim Garman
We on the Portsmouth Historical Society board would like to wish all of our members and supporters a very Merry Christmas, Joyous Holidays and a Happy and healthy New Year! This past year we have made major strides in expanding our membership base and providing opportunities to our members and the public to learn about Portsmouth’s fascinating history. Next year, we plan to continue this momentum and would like to double our membership, which currently stands at about 450 individual, family and corporate members. We also are looking at some new and exciting events and programs for 2017, to include a Portsmouth History Trivia night and guest lectures from our neighboring Historical Societies, such as Prudence Island. We will also have opportunities for you to get involved in a direct way by helping us inventory our historical cemeteries and houses. These and other programs in the works have come from your suggestions and comments and we encourage you to keep telling us what other events or programs you would like to see from your Historical Society.
As the New Year approaches, I encourage you to consider a tax-deductible donation to our Society. Memorial donations are a nice way to remember a friend or family member and will help us continue to improve the condition of our Union Church facility and expand our activities.
In closing, I’d like to wish you and your families a Happy and Safe Holiday Season.
Jim Garman
President, Portsmouth Historical Society
