Portsmouth Town Historian Jim Garman will present a lecture on the Mount Hope Bridge and the first Sakonnet River Bridge. The Mount Hope Bridge connects Portsmouth to Bristol and opened in 1929. The first Sakonnet River Bridge was constructed in 1956. This bridge closed in 2012 after a new bridge was built. Learn more about these vital pieces of infrastructure connecting Portsmouth and Aquidneck Island to the mainland.
