SUMMARY:Causes of the American Revolution
DESCRIPTION:Noted author and historian Christian McBurney will once again visit the Portsmouth Historical Society and hold a talk entitled “Causes of the American Revolution: Why did the thirteen colonies declare their independence 250 years ago?”  \n\n\n\nYes\, “no taxation without representation” was a real thing\, but there was much more too. This Burt Quist Memorial Lecture will explore the underlying causes of the American Revolution by looking at political\, economic\, social\, demographic\, geographical\, immigration\, racial\, and ideological factors.  \n\n\n\nThis event is co-sponsored by the Battle of Rhode Island Association. \n\n\n\nChristian McBurney is the author of eleven books covering Rhode Island and the American Revolution. His next book will be on Rhode Island’s “Black Regiment.” He is also the editor and publisher of a leading Rhode Island history blog at smallstatebighistory.com.  \n\n\n\nChristian resides with his wife near Bethesda\, Maryland\, and they have a second home in West Kingston\, RI. \n\n\n\nThe talk is free and open to the public.
