Our Museum Hosts (called “Docents”) are Society volunteers who donate their time to host our visitors. No special knowledge is needed and you get to learn a lot about Portsmouth history.
Docent Scheduling
See the Docent Schedule as of June 1 2019 (Click Here)
If you cannot make your assignment, please make your own arrangements for a substitute. A list of docent phone numbers is posted on a special proprietary docents web page that can be accessed via the Board Only page (requires a password to access) Click Here.
For more information on becoming a docent, e-mail Nancy Crawford, our Docent Coordinator.

This page has information for our docents to better hosts and guide our guests through the museum and grounds.
ACCEPTING DONATIONS AND LOANS OF ARTIFACTS AND DOCUMENTS
General instructions:
- When offered an item for our collection please thank the donor and inform them that the item will be reviewed before being added to our collection.
- It is important to fill out a ‘Loan & Donation’ form, stored in the top drawer of the desk (or download at link below).
- Include if it is a loan or donation and if they wish it returned if it is not added to our collection. The donor contact information is crucial. The description can be filled in by you or by the donor.
- Please leave the form and the item in the records’ room, near the reception desk. We are trying to avoid scratches and accumulation on the piano.

INFORMATION TO HELP DOCENTS PREPARE AND DELIVER
Being a docent is a very rewarding experience. No training or experience is required. You just need to be good at greeting visitors. The curators have labeled and provided explanatory placards that can “self-guide” visitors thought the museum.
Doing a little homework will quickly bring you up to speed on the museum’s holdings. The below information will help you become a “museum expert” in no time.
